Paperbooks
"Artists are by their very nature vain - vain about what they do. That is why vanity publishing exists, except now you can do it yourself. With the advent of photo-books, the re-invention of the family album aimed at recycling a very old idea, we can do this without having to publish 10,000 copies to make it financially viable.
I have no shame in using this modern technology available to put my work into book form. It is a fantastic opportunity to collate and catalogue what you do. That is more important that the vanity publishing side, which is also an attractive proposition. As an artist you build up a huge collection of
works until you cannot see what has been achieved, so you have an exhibition to exorcise it all. This is not always possible but publishing it in book form is an ideal way to deal with that clutter. Academics have always done it so why not artists.
